Barnsley based charity, The Shawlands Trust has once again backed a cricket project run jointly by FDSO and Disport. The project, which links Stainborough Club with local Special School, Greenacre School, is now in its third year. Shawlands Trust has provided £500 to support the project.
Students from Greenacre School will organise the 3rd Disability Cricket Festival, to be held at Stainborough CC in June/ July next year. The students will be involved in the planning of all aspects of the event, including catering, publicity, designing Certificates, buying medals, inviting VIPs and press, and taking entries. They will make decisions on managing the budget, and how to make the event a success.
Regional Development Officer, Fiona Hall said:
"This is an innovative project which is highly valued by the school, and the club alike. Students are able to learn about how a community club runs, and how to organise an event. It provides a valuable practical learning experience, which the students get actively involved in. There is a sense of pride on the event day,  when students realise the results of their hard work.
Disport is hugely grateful to Shawlands Trust for its continued support to a project that has such a positive impact on young people with a disability.".
