Kirklees Welcomes Paralympic Flame
Leeds Road Playing Fields, Huddersfield, was the setting for a fantastic family event to celebrate the arrival of the Paralympic Flame, and the end of the Youth Games.
Over 400 people attended the celebration event, which included opportunities to sample activities including climbing, athletics, adapted cycling, golf, archery, rugby, football, cricket and dance.
Event organisers, Kirklees Council were justifiably proud of the turnout, and the prestige of hosting the Paralympic Flame, escorted by soldiers from the Yorkshire Regiment.
It is hoped that the legacy of the Paralympics will encourage disabled people in Kirklees to pursue sport as a way of life. Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor David Ridgway urged people to take up the opportunities offered to them in their area.
