Southfield success at West Yorkshire Boccia
On Tuesday 17th January teams representing schools from across West Yorkshire took part in the first under 19 Boccia Championships, held at the Deighton Sports Arena, Huddersfield. The competition was organised by FDSO with support from Boccia England, Lords Taverners and sponsors Action 4 Employment.
Students from Kirklees College assisted with the organisation of the event, overseeing scoring, officiating and generally ensuring things ran smoothly, The group also acted as referees as part of the Boccia Young Officials Award. Congratulations to the students who have all successfully achieved their bronze award and did an excellent job.
Teams played in a league format with each team playing each other once over the course of the day. This meant there were a lot of games to fit in and a lot of exciting boccia played.
After a long day of competition it was Southfield C from Bradford who came out on top by a single point from Southfield A, with the team from Grange Technology College in third place.
Mary Johnson, Boccia England’s Junior Development Officer, attended the event and commented;
‘I thought that it was a brilliant day and very well organised. It was so good to see so many young people enjoying the exciting competitive sport of Boccia.’
Congratulations to all those who took part in an excellent day of boccia and a big thank you to the students and staff from Kirklees College, all at the Deighton Sports Arena, Boccia England and Action 4 Employment for supporting this event.
