10 teams representing schools from across South Yorkshire took part in the boccia competition held at Barnsley College Sports Centre. The competition was organised by FDSO in partnership with the college, Boccia England and Lords Taverners and was supported by sponsors Action 4 Employment. The competition forms part of the pathway to the Lords Taverners National under 19’s Boccia Championships to be held in Sheffield in March.
Teams competed in 2 groups, playing in a round robin format against each of the other teams in their group with the group winners and runners up qualifying for the semi finals.

Students from Barnsley College assisted with the organisation of the event as well as officiating on the day as part of the Boccia Young Officials Award, which all of the learners have now successfully achieved. Congratulations to the group who all did an excellent job.

After an exciting day of intense competition Danum B from Doncaster were group 1 winners with Kingstone A from Barnsley finishing in second place.
Group 2 winners were Danum A with King Ecgbert A from Sheffield as runners up.

The semi final line up saw Danum B take on King Ecgbert in game one and a Danum A playing Kingstone A in the second game.
Eventually it was the two Danum teams that came out on top to set up a Danum derby in the final.

The final was a tense game with a very high standard of boccia on display. Eventually only one point separated the two teams with Danum B coming out on top to win the trophy. In the third and fourth place play off King Ecgbert defeated Kingstone to take third.

Congratulations to all those who took part in an excellent day of boccia and a big thank you to Barnsley College, Boccia England and Action 4 Employment for supporting the event.
