Alexander Takes Plunge Towards Dream Job As Lifeguard
Alexander Thompson, from Sheffield was celebrating a potentially Life-changing success this Easter, as he passed his RLSS Lifesaving Course.
Alexander, who has a learning disability, successfully completed the challenging course, which now puts him in the frame to work as a Lifeguard. It is yet another string to Alex’s bow, as he has over recent years, gathered numerous sports leadership qualifications, and the SAYLS Sports Volunteer of the Year Award.
Alexander was registered onto the course by Action for Employment, (A4e) as part of the FDSO Sports Employment Project. The project is an initiative to open up employment opportunities in sport for people with a disability.
Tom Wilkes, of A4e said:
“This is exactly what our project is about. Young Sports Leaders who have a lot to offer, but just need that extra bit of help to get them on the employment ladder. We are delighted that Alexander has shown the way for other people with potential, and we are confident that with that little bit of extra support we can find more opportunities like this.”
Now that Alexander is qualified, discussions are underway to identify a suitable position for Alexander to begin his dream job.
Fiona Hall, Regional Development Officer, said:
“We will make sure Alexander gets all the support he needs to establish himself as a Lifeguard. I have no doubts that he will do a fantastic job.”
