Humber

Everybody should have the opportunity to participate in sport, whatever his or her ability. At the Humber Sports Partnership we are dedicated to improving the access to sport and physical activity for all disabled people within the Humber sub-region.

Facilitated through the Equality Standard, The Humber Sports Partnership is working with partners to create an equitable sporting environment for all its members. Access to facilities and services are at the forefront, in addition to the access to quality coaches and a safe environment. In conjunction with this Humber Sports Partnership appreciate that Sport is also a tool that can unite communities, through the Equality Standard our aim is to help combat prejudice and discrimination that many disabled people experience.

To support the role out of the Humber Disability Development Plan the Humber Diability Development Group has been established which is made up of representatives from school sport partnerships, local authorities, NGB’s and other local disability sports representatives and has been set up to make recommendations to the Delivery Agents of Sport on disability issues. This group provides guidance, local expertise and support with regards to the development and delivery of the county work programmes. From the set up of this group and Utilising the local knowledge of the steering group representatives and their respective networks has enabled a directory of disability specific/inclusive sporting opportunities to be produced. The group has also supported the development of a comprehensive programme of Disability Awareness courses supporting the development of coachesand volunteers within disability sport across the Humber.
