Qualification to Regional Athletics Final
Traditionally the top two athletes in each event category will reach the regional final. However at the organisers discretion, other additional athletes may be allowed to progress to the final. This may occur in cases where positions were very close, or in events which are “over populated” e.g. the 50m races at the very busy West Yorkshire event.
Officials
All events are officiated by fully qualified track and field officials with the assistance of trained volunteers, and supervised college volunteers.
Results
Results are circulated to schools as soon as possible after each of the events.
Talented Athletes
Talented athletes are referred to the athletics governing body and to the National squad (Mencap Sport) so that opportunities for them to develop their talent are made available on a regular basis
National Athletics Squad
Yorkshire has an excellent track record of filtering talented athletes into the National Athletics Squad (English Sports Association for People With A Learning Disability). Indeed, over 60% of the National squad representatives in 2003 were from the Yorkshire Region, and began their athletics interests during the Disport Athletics Championships. Athletes from this region have been involved in events all over Europe several returning with medals
