Hi, Im James Brown and I am the West Yorkshire Disability Development Officer for the Federation of Disability Sports Organisations (FDSO).

Although I am employed directly by the FDSO, I am based with the West Yorkshire Sport team in the County Sports Partnership. The areas that I cover are Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees. My role is to actively promote and develop sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled people, of any age and ability, across West Yorkshire. The key areas of my work are as follows:

Marketing & Communication

My sub-regional role exists to ensure that there are more high quality opportunities to participate, coach and volunteer in disability sport. This can only be acheived through a strong partnership working approach, utilising existing local sports and activity networks and developing new links where possible.

The West Yorkshire Disability Sport Steering Group was formed to support the work of local partners in the area. The steering group is made up of representatives from school sport partnerships (SSP's), the five local authorities, county level governing bodies of sport and disability sports organisations. The group was established to provide a fully integrated approach to disability sport and to make recommendations to the delivery agents of sport and physical activity on disability sport issues. This group has provided guidance, local expertise and support with regards to the development and delivery of the county work programmes.
